BJR is the World, BJR is the Children

In our current economy, many
services that were once free are now having to charge in order to maintain
their quality of service. In this newsletter, there will be several
opportunities to send BJR some needed funds of the money kind. Please
give early and give often. No Turkish Lyra, stock options, or
wooden animals will be accepted this time. If by the end of this
newsletter you are not compelled to send money, please stare at a rotating set
of concentric circles and then re-read the newsletter. Remember, the BJR
newsletter is better than Cats. You're going to read it again and
again.
Massive Piece of BJR Memorabilia for Sale
Our first item on auction at eBJRay.com is the current home of Bryan J. Rollins.
This house comes with a good deal of other BJR memorabilia, such as the hole he
accidentally drilled in the wall when wiring his house for ethernet (you could
frame it!). While the Austin market is similar to other housing markets
around the country, this national treasure is perfect for someone who doesn't
like to sleep outside when it rains.
College Baseball
The college baseball season officially became interesting as the Stanford
Cardinal visited Austin in February, taking two of three games from the #!
ranked University of Texas Longhorns. BJR corralled five cohorts to serve
as bodyguards and even wear Stanford gear to make it look like BJR wasn't the
only person in the stands yelling "Sing that 'I've been working on the
railroad' song one more time and I'll take you all out!!!" It's good
to see that BJR still hasn't learned a thing about sportsmanship.
The Austin Ice Storm
Just two days later, the temperature had dropped from 77 degrees to 20, and
Austin experienced "The Ice Storm". BJR's driveway became
an ice rink, as freezing hail collected on the ground. (Notice, it was
NOT snow. Those of you who are familiar with BJR's wager that when it
snows and sticks in Austin, he will make snow angels clad in only boxers, it
was NOT snow.) Apparently, when BJR arrived in Texas, no one informed him
that life as we know it completely stops in Austin when this happens. So,
showing up at work, BJR was the only one until <The Company's> CEO arrived.
They determined that Northern upbringing (Alaska, Michigan) and 4WD were the
keys to their arrival, though secretly it is believed that a Texas term,
"cajones," was also key in making in into work.
Escape from the Freezing Pan into the Freezer
Given the shock of the cold, Susan and BJR decided to spend five days at
the end of February in balmy, tropical Chicago. Known as "the always
temperate and never windy city", Chicago was undergoing unusual sub-zero
Celsius conditions, snow flurries, and yeti attacks. Thankfully this
equatorial paradise had the foresight to install central heating into their
museums, aquariums, and planetariums, in the case of such an emergency, and so
BJR and Susan were spared frostbite and amputation.
How much would you pay to see BJR ride 150 miles across Texas?
$1000? But, wait there's more! What if it were for another good
cause besides just sending money to BJR? On April 12-13, BJR will be
riding in the MS150 from Houston to Austin, to raise money for multiple
sclerosis research and treatment. Over the last three years, BJR has been
one of the top 300 money raisers, out of the 8000 people who show up to have
the privilege of riding alongside BJR. As an
added incentive, if I raise $3500, BJR will shave "cycling
style" for the ride - meaning no leg hair below the knee. BJR hasn't
done this since high school swimming, so this is a rare treat.
