Transplants for Children (TFC) is the only agency of its kind in Central and South Texas. Founded in 1986, TFC is dedicated to assisting young organ and tissue transplant recipients and their families in effectively coping with the emotional, financial, and social challenges that arise before, during and after transplantation.

When I first learned about Transplants for Children, I was incredibly excited that it existed here in Central Texas. When I met the team, I felt their dedication and care for the kids. And when I met the kids, I was overwhelmed with the energy and their excitement about the future. They are so comfortable with each other, and with TFC. As a newcomer, I was introduced as "a kidney", and would get the coolest responses: "Sweet, me too. 10 years.", "I'm a liver", "Yo - two heart transplants", and so on. This identity for the kids rolled off their tongues like it was their last name, and they were proud of their new life.

For a child and his or her family, an organ transplant can bring the joyous realization of new life. The transplant process, however, can also present overwhelming emotional and financial challenges which most families are simply not prepared to face. TFC exists to help families overcome those challenges. Our organization was established to “be there” when families need somewhere to turn for help, when they first hear the words, “I’m sorry, without a transplant, your child will die.” Today, TFC assists transplant recipients and their families by providing educational programs and supportive services that help families live life.
